Welcome to the Club

Meishan pork is rich, juicy, and deep red — not the pale, lean cuts of traditional store-bought pork. You’ve got access to something rare: pork raised slow, on pasture, and shared only within an invitation-only circle of people who value bold flavor, nourishing food, and ethical animal stewardship.

About the Meishan

Known as the oldest domesticated breed of pig, the Meishan’s lineage goes back at least 5,000 years, originating in China’s Neolithic farming cultures. They are renowned for their docile temperament, tender and flavorful meat, and superior lard. The breed was classified as Critically Endangered until May 2024, when homesteaders and breeders began spreading word of its excellent qualities. Today, it remains listed as Threatened.

Every Meishan in the United States descends from a group of 99 pigs sent from China for a research program in 1989. According to Chinese tradition, the Meishan is named for the characters said to appear in the wrinkles on their forehead — the inspiration for our logo.

Our Pigs

Our pigs have continuous access to open pasture, where they graze on a mix of grasses, cover crops, and natural forage. We never spray our fields with chemicals. Their diet is supplemented with a non-GMO, corn-free, soy-free feed from a local mill, and they often enjoy surplus from our Certified Naturally Grown vegetable garden. They are never given added hormones, antibiotics, or vaccines.
